FlyBuddy
Drone For Kids – LeManoosh Design Competition
Details
FlyBuddy is a drone designed for beginner pilots aged 8–12. Its construction is simple, while the choice of materials ensures maximum resistance in the event of an impact or fall. At the core lies the central unit, housing the hardware and battery, accompanied by a camera, hologram projector, LED lighting to simulate the drone’s mood, and a touch screen for simplified supervision of functions. The four motors with propellers are attached using magnetic pins for easy folding and mobility, while an organic mesh cover protects the propellers, reducing the risk of injury without disrupting airflow.

Beyond its thoughtful design and durable materials, FlyBuddy distinguishes itself with a unique hologram projector located beneath the central body. This innovation allows a variety of interactive projections — from soccer field lines and target-shooting games to hopscotch and other playful activities. These features not only provide entertainment but also encourage children to spend more time outdoors, engaging in sports and games with peers — or even tech-enthusiast adults.
The drone connects seamlessly with a smartphone, enabling users to import or create their own projections and share them within the FlyBuddy community. Its built-in circular touch screen provides essential information such as battery status and range, while also allowing safe launch procedures, video recording, and quick access to saved AR projections. For younger pilots, a particularly engaging feature is the animated “eyes” that reflect the drone’s changing moods, adding a layer of personality and fun to every flight.
